Art of Resistance

Never Been Idle Stencil

Published

on

This design is a response to the concept of Idle No More. While INM is a powerful rallying cry and has activated many young Indigenous Peoples, there are those who have fought all their lives for Indigenous liberation (Read Zig Zag’s analysis here). This image features Roberta Blackgoat who was a Diné elder matriarch from Black Mesa/Big Mountain area. Roberta struggled for nearly 40 years resisting US federal policy to forcibly relocate her and other Diné from their ancestral homelands. Resistance to relocation continues to this day.
